He decided to make an appearance on KBS 1TVŌĆÖs program planned to air on the upcoming 26th, as the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Along with the Korean representative of UNHRC, James Lynch, and the honorary and goodwill ambassador of 7 years, Sohee, Jung Woo Sung reported the worsening situation for the refugees during these COVID-19 times. Jung Woo Sung had previously visited numerous refugee camps such as those in Nepal, South Sudan, and Lebanon. He explained how beautiful he realized humans could be as refugees did not lose hopes in their eyes despite the situation, and volunteers helped them on site. Jung Woo Sung mentioned the Rohingya refugee camp in CoxŌĆÖs Bazar, Bangladesh as the most unforgettable place. Ambassador Jung Woo Sung, who was shocked by the sheer size of the place when he first visited, said it was difficult to face the Rohingya refugees who had lost hopes in their eyes. As refugees are unprotected by their countries, the COVID-19 situation is harsher for them. They are not even being provided with basic hygiene supplies such as masks and sanitary products. Jung Woo Sung disclosed that though there are no reports of mass infection within the camps yet, they have a high risk of being exposed to the virus due to the unsanitary conditions. Meanwhile, UNHCRŌĆÖs James Lynch and Goodwill Ambassador Jung Woo SungŌĆÖs interview was pre-recorded on the 19th and will be aired on December 26th at 9.40 p.m. KST on Correspondents Report: The World Now. ┬Ā Source (1)
